Fine to Drive

Fine to Drive

Fine to Drive is an original Americana band residing in St. Louis, Missouri. Capturing the nature of traditional Americana they effortlessly blend country, folk and blues to create a fresh and yet comforting sound in their roots-driven music.

Their first full-length album What Whiskey Did,  written and performed by the duo, along with their supporting band of outstanding musicians, was released February 2018.  As versatile and energetic as they are true to the classic spirit of country music, Fine to Drive’s first album proves they are an undeniable powerhouse thanks to their distinct and dynamic male and female vocal harmonies, unique sound and authentic songwriting. The album starts off with just the right amount of twang and lyrical sass in the song “Everything but Love,” a playful take on the American dream and picturesque suburban life with that clap-your-hands and stomp-your-feet feel that invites you to the dance floor. Their wonderfully phrased two-part harmonies shine in the ballads “I Can’t Count on You” and “Wreck My Life” making you want to sing-along to every heartbroken verse and chorus. The title track “What Whiskey Did” is a bourbon soaked alibi highlighting the Dobro blues guitar sound that slides its way in and out of the entire album. “Nothing to Lose” stands out as the feel good song of the album making you want to hop in the nearest convertible and head for Mexico. As a whole What Whiskey Did is genuine, balanced, strong and goes down smooth just like the drink it’s named for.

The band began as an acoustic duo, founded by Michael Eisenbeis and Suzy Bacino. Michael is a well-respected veteran of the St. Louis music scene, founding the regional touring punk group The Nukes in the early 1990’s, as well as playing guitar and singing in a diverse mix of projects ranging from rock and roll to bluegrass. Suzy co-founded St. Louis Magazine’s A-List band Whiskey Morning in 2013, and has continued to sing and write music for various projects, including the 2016 release of Whiskey Morning’s album, The Here & Now.  After discovering they both have cats named after Loretta Lynn, the most awarded female country recording artist with a career spanning over six decades, Bacino and Eisenbeis knew they were destined to make music together. The harmonistic duo went on to form Fine to Drive and shortly thereafter, expanded the group to include heavy hitters: Bob Breidenbach on dobro, pedal and lap steel; Adam White on drums and percussion; and Quinten Coe on the upright bass.

Fresh Heir

Inspired by the world around us, as well as the innovators and dreamers that came before us... Fresh Heir's mission is to inspire a mass shift in consciousness towards positivity, love and hope through the power of their music, lyrics, and live performance. In a world full of uncertainty and questionable agendas, Fresh Heir shares a message of unity through positive lyricism, high energy performance and feel good sounds rooted in the American traditions of soul, funk, jazz, and hip-hop.

Drawing upon influences from musical groups such as Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, The Roots and John Legend the band creates their own eclectic “pop” sound. Connecting the body, mind, and spirit, Fresh Heirs' music keeps their audiences moving while they deliver meaningful words of encouragement in harmony over a high-energy musical platform featuring blazing keys and rippin' horn lines.

Fresh Heir has been putting on high-energy performances since 2007. Originally a 5- piece ensemble the band now can extend 10+ pieces. Meeting at Webster University (St. Louis, MO) in the jazz studies program, their beginning sound featured instrumental originals & covers similar to groove/jam artists like Soulive, RH Factor, and Charlie Hunter. Evolving, the band added vocals to the energy and began writing positive inspired lyrics in 2009 as showcased on their "Alive Around The World" and "Sky's The Limit" albums.

Nick Savage and Ryan Marquez have remained the band's core founders, as membership has been fluid through the years. The current configuration has been together for 5 years and features a cast of the regions top players. FH now operates similar to Steely Dan, in that it always features Savage & Marquez but integrates the other members to create the sound most appropriate for the request at hand.

The group has experience playing in different configurations all over the world as one can see in their videos. FH can jam an acoustic setup with 2-5 people or can produce a full-scale production featuring 10+ members utilizing high-level audio/video production skills.

Funky Butt Brass Band

Funky Butt Brass Band

A listThe Funky Butt Brass Band was formed in 2008 by six musicians who revere and respect the New Orleans brass band tradition. Made up of members of Gumbohead, The Feed, Musica Slesa, Bob Kuban's Everyday People and other St. Louis musical groups, the FBBB takes traditional New Orleans brass tunes and gives them a funky new flavor, in the style of the Dirty Dozen or Rebirth Brass Band. Don't be surprised if you also hear a little Motown, Southern rock, blues and some straight-ahead Chicago blues to go along with the second line "street beat" groove. The Funky Butt Brass Band is guaranteed to get your toes tapping, your feet marching and kick any party into overdrive.

The New Orleans brass band tradition has its roots in that city's jazz funeral processions. Once the dearly departed was buried, the brass band would "cut the body loose" by playing uptempo, joyous music. As they marched, they would be joined by revelers who formed a line alongside and behind the band. This was known as the "second line."

Javier Mendoza Presents Hobo Cane

Posted in Live Entertainment, Musicians, Contemporary, Missouri Touring Performers, World

Javier Mendoza Presents Hobo Cane

Born as Javier Alberto Mendoza in the state of Virginia to a Spanish mother and Mexican/American father, Javier's love for music burned bright from a young age. He started his musical career joining Warner-Chappell as a staff writer in Miami, FL. There he spent his time writing tunes for mega pop sensations such as Enrique Iglesias, Juan David, Ricky Martin, Rosario and more. The ever-winding path of life took him to St. Louis where he saw musical success with his new following. In 2014, Mendoza moved to Music City, Nashville, TN where he is embarking on a project as Hobo Cane.

Hobo Cane was awarded a Telly Award in 2015 for Best Original Music in a docoumentary called "The Forsaken." He has also shared the stage with the likes of Chuck Berry, Los Lobos, Willy Nelson, Great Big World, and more. Most recently, Hobo Cane has found a warm songwriting community in Nashville with the Grammy-nominated Barry Dean as well as Grammy Award winners Luke Laird, Lori McKenna, and many others. Ever the dynamic performer, Hobo Cane has also performed alongside Nashville hit makers Michael W. Smith, Jars of Clay, Chris Tomlin, and Ben Folds, in addition to securing countless television and movie song placements.

Why Hobo Cane? "According to the critics, I've always been too Rock for Pop, too Pop for Alternative, too Anglo for Latin and even sometimes too Latin for Anglo. I think that's a good thing. A hobo is a transient and migrant worker. I've moved from place to place all my life, and I was raised among different cultures and languages. I think my songs are influenced and enriched by that diversity. I want to help destroy the stereotype of any music. My mother's last name is 'Cañas', which means 'Canes' in Spanish. So that's me... HOBO CANE.”
